About
Michele McMahon has been a storyteller for over 20 years. She was a journalist before writing and researching for television and then became a producer of multiple award-winning television series. For seven years she was a Production Executive at Bell Media for the drama series: Transplant (CTV, NBC, SKY), Cardinal (CTV, BBC2), 19-2 (BRAVO, Netflix) and Motive (CTV, ABC). She also worked with the team at the Harold Greenberg Fund to adjudicate short films and the team at Crave to commission feature films and documentaries.
Transplant won Canadian Screen Awards (CSAs) for best drama, best writing, best direction, and best lead actor. It was also honoured by The Muslim Public Affairs Council of Hollywood Media Awards that celebrates members of the entertainment industry who promote inclusion and social justice. Cardinal and 19-2 also won multiple CSAs and 19-2 was nominated for an International Emmy at the 44th Emmys.
Prior to joining Bell Media, Michele spent nine years with Omnifilm Entertainment as Director of Drama Development. There, she developed the drama Primeval: New World (Space, Syfy, ITV, ProSieben) and she created and developed the award-winning drama Arctic Air (CBC). At that time, she was also the Chair of the Amnesty International Film Festival (Vancouver) for five years.
In 2020 she earned a Master of Arts Degree in the Graduate Liberal Studies program from Simon Fraser University with a focus on exploring how stories create social change. And after all these years telling stories she still believes that stories can change the world. Michele has taught writing for television and screen at the University of British Columbia, Capilano University and the Vancouver Film School.
