This course, designed by UBC professor Sarah Leavitt, begins with introductory exercises and wraps up with a final short comics assignment. In between, students will read comics history and theory as well as excerpts from a wide range of published comics; learn from interviews with working cartoonists; experiment with daily drawing; practice working with pencil, ink and colour; and work towards developing their own unique comics style.
How to Write a Novel
Take your novel idea from concept to completion with this three course series of non-credit online courses created by our fiction professors Nancy Lee and Annabel Lyon. From outlining to draft writing, to editing and revising your manuscript, we’ll give you the tools to create the novel you’ve always dreamed of writing.
These courses are open to anyone and run several times per year.
Writing the Romantic Comedy
Created by experienced screenwriter and UBC instructor Zac Hug, these two courses will help you tell your own romantic comedy story. Through insightful lectures, assignments, and interviews with industry experts, you’ll learn how to create the outline, and then the script, for the rom-com that you want to write.
