CLASS of 2016: On Stage!
Just announced: CLASS of 2016: On Stage! is UBC’s Baccalaureate Concert re-imagined for the UBC 100 Centennial celebrations. This year the event features talented students from throughout the UBC Arts & Culture District, including three Creative Writing graduates: Clara Kumagai reading from her YA/Children’s novel, and Alison Braid and Hava Rosenberg, reading their poetry.
You’ll enjoy music, theatre, film, poetry, and prose prepared and presented by graduating students from UBC’s class of 2016.
Come early and hear a special centennial medley performed by a jazz septet made up of students and faculty of the UBC School of Music. Celebrating 100 Years of Popular Song at UBC includes tunes selected from each decade of the last 100 years woven together and arranged by Fred Stride to celebrate UBCs landmark anniversary. Historical images of UBCs creative and performing arts will be shown in the theatre during the medley. Continue reading “CLASS of 2016: On Stage!”

Brave New Play Rites Festival
For its 30th anniversary, UBC’s Brave New Play Rites Festival is premiering twelve short plays at Studio 1398 on Granville Island. The festival’s Staged Reading Series at PTC includes a panel talk on new play development with alumni of Brave New Play Rites and the UBC Creative Writing Program. The produced plays, written by BFA and MFA UBC Creative Writing students, are an ambitious collaboration between emerging and established directors and actors from our vibrant artistic community. Twenty-three writers, twelve directors, nearly thirty actors, and a four-member producing team create stories of profundity, hilarity, darkness, and chaos.
