After the graduating from the MFA, he focuses on translating his cinematic sensibilities into interactive narrative across new media the likes of virtual reality and video games. Passionate about teaching, he has coordinated several arts programs, including the Game Design program at Vancouver Film School.
Ricardo’s thesis, La Güera del Cine, translates from Spanish into “The Blonde from the Movies”. It forrays into a forgotten part of cinematic history, the stories of traveling cinemas in the 1980s in rural central Mexico. Flor turns fifteen the day her father unexpectedly passes away to a fire during one of their film screenings. Upon learning that the mother she thought to be dead is alive, she leads her newly-inherited traveling cinema on a journey to meet her. Told in the style of a road movie, this coming of age novella follows Flor’s challenges navigating a hostile, unwelcoming “macho” world as she fights for her place within it.
