Marie Powell (MFA Creative Writing 2011) has just had her first Young Adult novel, Hawk, published by Five Rivers Publishing, Ontario. A version of Hawk was her MFA thesis project with supervisor Glen Huser. The novel was launched August 15 at the When Words Collide writers’ conference in Calgary. It is available in print and ebook from online bookstores including Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Chapters, Kobo, and Five Rivers Publishing. Five Rivers has already contracted her to write the sequel, Hawk & Crown, due out in 2016. Marie’s short stories appear in such literary magazines as subTerrain, Room, and Transition, and she is the author of 30 children’s books from Scholastic, Amicus, Crabtree, and other educational publishers.
