Celebrating Alumni Successes



Our wonderful alumni continue to excel in the world. It’s hard to keep up! Forthwith, a compendium of some recent successes:

Winner, Fiddlehead 2016 Best Short Fiction Prize ($2000 plus publication): Brent van Staalduinen for his story “Skinks”.

Novel accepted for publication: Brooke Carter for her YA novel Learning Seventeen with Orca Book Publishers. The novel should be published in 2018.

Book Launch for Nathan Adler’s first novel, Wrist, published this spring from Kegedonce Press.

Novel released: The Memento by Christy Ann Conlin (Penguin Random House). A strange tale of madness, murder and dark secrets set on the rugged Bay of Fundy coast.

Novel released: We’re All in This Together, by Amy Jones (McClelland & Stewart) is released into the world. Her first novel, the book follows her award-winning short fiction collection What Boys Like.

The Leo Awards. BC’s version of the Oscars honoured work by several alumni:

  • Roslyn Muir’s The Birdwatcher received the best direction award, as well as being shortlisted in numerous categories, including best screenplay.
  • Jesse McKeown (BFA) received the best screenwriting award for a dramatic series. Alumna Jennica Harper was also shortlisted for the award.
  • Dennis Foon won the best screenwriting award for a television movie.
