Several members of Creative Writing community selected as finalists for BC and Yukon Book Prizes




Please join us in extending our congratulations to these UBC School of Creative Writing MFA and MACL alumni, as well our Director, who have been shortlisted for a variety of BC and Yukon Book Prizes:

  • Jordan Abel, MFA, is nominated for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize and the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize for his memoir, NISHGA.
  • Nicola I. Campbell, MFA, is nominated for the Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes for her memoir, Spíləx̣m.
  • Kallie George, MACL, is nominated for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize for her children’s book The Secret Fawn.
  • Shane Goth, MFA, is nominated for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize for his children’s book, The Midnight Club.
  • Carrie Jenkins, MFA, is nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her novel, Victoria Sees It.
  • Barbara Nickel, MFA, is nominated for the Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize for her middle-grade novel, Dear Peter, Dear Ulla, and
  • Alix Ohlin, director, is nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her short story collection, We Want What We Want.

The BC and Yukon Book Prizes gala and awards announcement will be held in Vancouver on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Since 1985, the Prizes have been celebrating outstanding work being written, illustrated and published in the region.
