Two faculty and five alumni finalists for 2021 BC and Yukon Book Prizes



Seven members of the UBC School of Creative Writing are finalists for the 2021 BC and Yukon Book Prizes.

We’re proud to announce that seven members of the UBC School of Creative Writing are finalists for the 2021 BC and Yukon Book Prizes.


Two faculty members and five alumni have been selected:

  • Billy-Ray Belcourt, assistant professor, is nominated for the Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes and the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize for his book, A History of My Brief Body.
  • Amber Dawn, MFA ’07, is nominated for the Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes for her poetry collection, My Art is Killing Me and Other Poems.
  • Michelle Good, MFA ’14, is nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize and the Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes for her book, Five Little Indians.
  • Aislinn Hunter, MFA ’99, is nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her novel, The Certainties.
  • Shaena Lambert, BFA ’83, is nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her novel, Petra.
  • Annabel Lyon, associate professor and MFA ’96, is nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for her novel, Consentand
  • Danny Ramadan, MFA ’20, is nominated for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize for his children’s book, Salma the Syrian Chef.

The BC & Yukon Book Prizes gala and awards announcement will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The BC Book Prizes celebrate the achievements of writers and publishers in British Columbia.
