EDI Virtual Coffee Chat

The EDI committee is pleased to host a virtual coffee on Grit vs. Talent (how to finish your book/long form projects).

“A bias towards finishing what you begin rather than leaving it half finished, is actually characteristic of some of the most successful people in the world,” says professor of psychology Angela Duckworth. In her book, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, she discusses the importance of hard work and resilience when facing adversity.

Many writers start book projects, and very few finish them. The writing process is solitary and incredibly challenging; publishing is even more difficult, as writers compete for agents, book deals, and promotion.

In this virtual coffee hour, we will discuss why grit is more important than talent, and how to finish your manuscripts/projects.

We warmly welcome all current BFA/MFA students, staff, and faculty to share their experiences and insight. This is a safe, inclusive virtual space to ask questions.

*Please note that virtual coffees are not recorded to encourage participation from all attendees.
