Welcoming Our Newest Instructors



We are delighted to welcome our three newest full-time lecturers to the Creative Writing program: Tariq Hussain (Lyric & Libretto), Sarah Leavitt (Graphic Forms),  and Sheryda Warrener (Poetry).

tariq-webTariq Hussain is a Vancouver based fiction and nonfiction writer as well as an accomplished songwriter and recording artist. He began his artistic career as a songwriter in his late twenties when he released his first album, Splat. Since then, Tariq has put out three additional full-length albums and one EP under his own name, most recently the Moonwalker EP. In 2010, he joined the ranks of the six-piece orchestral rock band Brasstronaut and has since released two critically acclaimed albums with the group including the Polaris Prize nominated Mount Chimaera.

Sarah Leavitt BW-4Sarah Leavitt is a writer and cartoonist in Vancouver, BC. Her first book, Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother, and Me, a graphic memoir, has been published in Canada, the US, UK, Germany, France and Korea to international critical acclaim (LA Times, Vanity Fair, Globe and Mail, The Guardian, Die Welt).

Her second book, Agnes, Murderess, is a graphic novel set in nineteenth-century British Columbia, forthcoming in fall 2018 from Freehand Books.

Sheryda WarrenerSheryda Warrener is the author of two collections of poetry, Hard Feelings and Floating is Everything. Her poems have appeared in Event, The Fiddlehead, Grain, Hazlitt, The Believer, and in the anthology Best Canadian Poetry in English 2013. Her work has been shortlisted for Lemon Hound’s inaugural poetry contest, the Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry, the Arc Magazine Poem of the Year, and the Malahat Review Long Poem Prize.
