Keith Maillard wins Alberta Book of the Year Award

UBC Creative Writing professor Keith Maillard received a 2019 Book of The Year Award (Fiction) from the Book Publishers Association of Alberta for his novel, Twin Studies (Freehand Books).

Established in 1994, The Alberta Book Publishing Awards recognize and celebrate annually the most outstanding work of the Alberta book publishing industry. Experts and publishing professionals from across Canada select the winners.

Twin Studies is an engrossing, timely and contemporary novel about the bonds between twins, about sexuality and gender fluidity, and about the messy complexities of modern family life.

“Keith Maillard’s Twin Studies is a novel that challenges everything we think we know about family and the nature of love. Three sets of twins struggle with loss, identity, and adulthood, and in the middle of it all, Karen, a beleaguered, beautiful, and wryly intelligent mother, tries to keep everyone afloat, even as she feels her own life slipping under the weight of responsibility and confusion. Deliberately written, fiercely inventive, and unflinching, Twin Studies is a deeply satisfying novel by one of Canada’s finest authors.” says Jen Sookfong Lee, author of The Conjoined.

Maillard is the author of fourteen novels, a book of poetry and a memoir. Twelve of his titles have been shortlisted for or won literary prizes. For further information on Maillard, including a complete publication list, visit his website at keithmaillard.com.
