Omar Mouallem is an Alberta-based author, journalist, filmmaker, and educator. His journalism has appeared in The Guardian, WIRED, and NewYorker.com and earned three National Magazine Awards. His book Praying to the West: How Muslims Shaped the Americas won the 2022 Wilfred Eggelston Nonfiction Award and was named one of the Globe and Mail’s best books of the year. He’s also edited magazines, hosted several podcasts, and co-directed an award-winning documentary about a mental health crisis in the Alberta oil patch. His recent film The Last Baron, which documents the unlikely link between fast-food and Lebanese immigrants, is currently being made into a feature film retitled The Lebanese Burger Mafia.
