About

Maggie de Vries is the author of eleven books: two novels for teens, two middle-grade novels, three picture books, three illustrated animal stories and one memoir for adults. For seven years, Maggie was children’s book editor at Orca Book Publishers in Victoria. Her books have won many awards including three BC Book Prizes, and two of her books have been nominated for a Governor General Literary Award. She was inaugural Writer in Residence twice: in 2005 at Vancouver Public Library, and in 2012 at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George. She has been teaching children’s literature and creative writing courses for thirty years.

Maggie teaches writing for children and young adults in both the BFA and MFA programs. Because she now lives on Vancouver Island, she teaches all of her classes online.
