In this in-depth process talk, writer-in-residence Joshua Whitehead will share the culmination of two years of research for his new project The Stonewailers, a Two-Spirit, apocalyptic travel narrative self-described as “a fusion of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road meets Marvel’s The X-Men.”
The heart of this new work is at root in questions: How and what role do Two-Spirit / Indigiqueer peoples play in Indigenous futurisms? How are our genders original? Our desires sovereign? Come and hear how Whitehead’s deep engagement with the epistemological and literary intertextuality in Anishinaabeg and nêhiyawak (Cree) creation stories regarding cosmologies, astrologies, and non-human kin offer a way of living inside of these complex entanglements.
This research talk is for students, faculty and staff of the School of Creative Writing.
The School of Creative Writing is committed to making our events as accessible as possible. If you have questions or requests about access, please reach out to Sheryda Warrener at s.warrener@ubc.ca.
