Graphic Novel Writing course coming soon

Designed by professor Sarah Leavitt from UBC’s School of Creative Writing, this 6-week course has something for everyone!
This course begins with introductory exercises and wraps up with a final short comics assignment. In between, students will read comics history and theory as well as excerpts from a wide range of published comics; learn from interviews with working cartoonists; experiment with daily drawing; practice working with pencil, ink and colour; and work towards developing their own unique comics style.
Students will write and draw their own comics in this course, and the works we read will be written and drawn by one author as well. Readings will be diverse in subject matter, style and cartoonist background.
The guest experts: Taylor Brown-Evans, Marian Churchland, Johnny Damm, Michael DeForge, Mita Mahato, Zoe Si, Adam de Souza, and Teresa Wong.
Format: Online, asynchronous, non-credit.
