Natalie Morrill wins HarperCollinsPublishers/UBC Prize for Best New Fiction



AT THE TOP OF THE WALL, ALIGHT, by Sudbury author Natalie Morrill, is the winner of the 2015 HarperCollinsPublishers/UBC Prize for Best New Fiction. This powerful, accomplished novel follows the life of a Viennese Jew who is separated from his family during the Second World War and aided by a close friend, who is also a member of the Nazi party. Congratulations to Natalie, and to the runners up, Nazanine Hozar and Janice Lynn Mather.

We interviewed Natalie about her book and about her time at UBC. We also interviewed Karim Alrawi, winner of the 2013 award, whose novel “The Book of Sands” was published this year.

About the Prize

For the last three years, UBC, The Cooke Agency and HarperCollinsPublishers Canada have offered a prize for the best unpublished novel manuscript submitted by a UBC Creative Writing alumni. The winning author isl be offered literary representation by The Cooke Agency and an advance and book publication by HarperCollinsPublishersLtd.
